OUR STORY
Smokey Joe’s is an award-nominated mobile event caterer and street food cabin based at Altira Park in Herne Bay, Kent. Run by local owners Heidi and Ben, the business has gained a fantastic local reputation for serving premium street food ranging from slow-cooked pulled pork and dirty fries to clean, high-protein health boxes while also offering bespoke catering for weddings, festivals, corporate setups, and community charity events across Kent.
The Cabin & The Menu
During the week, Smokey Joe’s operates out of their static catering cabin situated on The Boulevard at Altira Park (just behind Howdens and outside City Plumbing).
Far from your standard industrial estate burger van, they pride themselves on high-quality ingredients and a versatile menu:
Comfort & Street Food: Known for mouthwatering cheeseburgers, dirty fries, loaded nachos, and slow-cooked barbecue favourites like mac 'n' cheese topped with pulled pork.
Fitness-Friendly Fuel: They actively cater to the local fitness community (including members of nearby David Lloyd and Snap Fitness) by offering macro-tracked, clean, high-protein options featuring lean seasoned chicken, smart carbs, and fresh vegetables.
Blue Light Discount: They officially support the community by offering a 20% discount to all Blue Light Card holders on their full menu, an offer that also extends to private event bookings.
Awards & Private Catering
Outside of their weekday hours, Ben and Heidi operate as a premier mobile event caterer. Using their eye-catching black Airstream food trailers, they bring custom-tailored menus straight to informal weddings, festivals, film productions, and corporate gatherings across Kent.
Their dedication to the craft has earned them notable recognition, including being shortlisted as finalists for Best Street Food in the Kent and Medway Food and Drink Awards. They are also deeply embedded in the Herne Bay community, regularly donating their services to support local causes and live music fundraisers like Theatre in the Park for the Strode Park Foundation.
Are you planning to drop by the Altira Park cabin for lunch, or are you looking to inquire about hiring them for a private event or wedding?
Growing up the highlight of every summer was always the family BBQ, and in my household this was the sole domain of my father Joe.
He would tend the coals, prepare and marinate all kinds of meat/seafood, spending hours just to make a meal for his friends and family.
I could always tell from the smile on his face that sharing this food was all the reward he needed for all his work.
Many years on in North Carolina I was first introduced to a different culture of Barbecue cooking. Smoking well seasoned meats over different types of wood to seal in the flavours.
With these techniques and his enjoyment of sharing, Smokey Joe’s was created.
